A good word from Oswald Chambers last week....

The Ministry of the Unnoticed

The Ministry of the Unnoticed

Blessed are the poor in spirit… —Matthew 5:3

The New Testament notices things that do not seem worthy of notice by our standards. "Blessed are the poor in spirit…." This literally means, "Blessed are the paupers." Paupers are remarkably commonplace! The preaching of today tends to point out a person's strength of will or the beauty of his character— things that are easily noticed. The statement we so often hear, "Make a decision for Jesus Christ," places the emphasis on something our Lord never trusted. He never asks us to decide for Him, but to yield to Him— something very different. At the foundation of Jesus Christ's kingdom is the genuine loveliness of those who are commonplace. I am truly blessed in my poverty. If I have no strength of will and a nature without worth or excellence, then Jesus says to me, "Blessed are you, because it is through your poverty that you can enter My kingdom." I cannot enter His kingdom by virtue of my goodness— I can only enter it as an absolute pauper.

The true character of the loveliness that speaks for God is always unnoticed by the one possessing that quality. Conscious influence is prideful and unchristian. If I wonder if I am being of any use to God, I instantly lose the beauty and the freshness of the touch of the Lord. "He who believes in Me…out of his heart will flow rivers of living water" (John 7:38). And if I examine the outflow, I lose the touch of the Lord.

Who are the people who have influenced us most? Certainly not the ones who thought they did, but those who did not have even the slightest idea that they were influencing us. In the Christian life, godly influence is never conscious of itself. If we are conscious of our influence, it ceases to have the genuine loveliness which is characteristic of the touch of Jesus. We always know when Jesus is at work because He produces in the commonplace something that is inspiring.

Sincerely

Why Children of Godly homes leave the faith.......

Attached is a very good read from Creation Ministries.  It is very insightful concerning one of the problems facing the western church and that is this..."Why are so many young people leaving the faith when they become adults?"

My personal believe is... it is born out of well meaning but misguided principles in children and youth ministries.  The facts speak for themselves.  This article fleshes out those thoughts exactly.

I have watched what happens as parents with the greatest of intention, do everything they can to keep their children engaged at church....only to see them drift away with apathetic attitudes to the faith they were so greatly exposed to and seemed to follow as children and youth.  Ask yourself the question.... "What happened?, How is this possible?"  Those are difficult questions to ask but worthy questions for sure to seek for answers.

Please take a moment to read the very well written article in this months newsletter and pass it along.  Put this on social media, email it, print it.  Get the conversation started in your home, church, sunday school class, bible study, work etc....

Thanks and God Bless

Fwd: July 5th

What a blessing this past Sunday for those in attendance.... Tommy presented his ruminations regarding Independence Day and this country to the entire church Sunday morning during the worship hour.  What a way to start the worship service.  Many people have asked for a copy of his notes and Tommy has provided them in order to be circulated.

Please take the time to read this when the moment presents itself.  You will be blessed and encouraged.

Fwd: Tommy's Foundation is sponsoring a Memorial Day Blood Drive

Tommy Culpepper's Foundation is sponsoring a Memorial Day Blood Drive with pledges for units of blood given going to The Thomas N. Culpepper Foundation for a Kidney.  Information is on the flyer.  It is Memorial Day in the Old Bank of America Building Parking Lot in Downtown Cartersville in the Blood Assurance Mobile Unit.

All you have to do is pledge an amount for number of units given. Blood Assurance will publish the results and it is on the honor system to give you pledge to Century Bank in the name of the Foundation.

You can also help by giving the much needed life giving properties of blood.  Holidays are a difficult time for many reasons for blood donation and needs.

Thank you in advance for you consideration and help.  Please help spread the word quickly by forwarding this email and posting to your favorite social media.

Is it Real? Your Salvation or Anyones Salvation? How do you know?

I was studying this week and came across a small document produced by John MacArthur's ministry Grace to You, titled.....  Is it Real?

It is patterned and summarized from the 18th Century Theologian, Pastor, Author, Jonathan Edward's writing - A Treatise Concerning Religious Affections.  He (Jonathan Edwards) wrote it in response to his and many's concern of the after-effects of what appeared to be many false conversions during The Great Awakening in which he was very much a part of witnessing and participating.

The purpose of both documents (the former from Edwards - which is worth a read, and current of MacArthur - attached) it was to show how a believer can know for sure their eternal status.  I am sending this to our class for 3 reasons.

  1. I send this to our class not as a challenge to question anyone's salvation but as a reminder that we should always be testing all things against God's Word including ourselves.  God provides us with His measuring rod to know for sure that we know for sure we are saved.
  2. Also, We all have family and friends which teeter on the fringes of what we call Christianity.  Is it up to us to judge them?  Obviously not, but nothing prevents us for arming ourselves with Truth in order to challenge those very lives, whose souls may literately be hanging in the balance between Heaven and Hell.
  3. This week our church is doing a drama, Heavens Gates and Hells Flames.  This week can be a very useful tool to change the direction of someones eternity..... and unfortunately, the potential.... for a deception to occur as well.  We must disciple and engage those that profess Salvation as a result of Heavens Gate and Hells Flames.  There will be an opportunity for some of us in the coming days to do this.  Salvation can certainly be an emotional thing.  Why wouldn't it?  However, we must with a sober mind away from the moment know what Salvation actually looks like.  How it is lived.   (The birth of my own salvation testimony has roots in a similar drama (movie) packed with emotions. To be blunt I was scared to death.  However a number of my teenage friends professed the same thing that night, and many, if not most, that I can recall, have not born fruit later in life that would present itself as salvation.  I confess I am not judging them at all.  I do however, have pause for concern for their soul, as evidenced of what their life shows thus-far.)

False conversion is a huge tool of Satan.  He is THE great deceiver.  Arm yourself with the truth.

Ask God to give you the opportunity to speak truth into the lives of whoever needs to hear it.

God Bless.

Heresy in the Book - Heaven is for Real, and possibly in the movie as well

To Our Class Members:

Entertainment in our culture has been a real active topic in our Sunday School Class lately.  As you all know we have had much discussion surrounding various movies that have been hitting the big screen of late that seem to have an appeal to a Christian Faith Based audience....

  1. Son of God
  2. Noah
  3. God's Not Dead
  4. Heaven is For Real
  5. Mom's Night Out

Things seem to be happening so fast and with such frequency it seems hard to sort everything out.  As your Sunday School teacher I believe we should discuss the merits of what impacts us culturally.

  • Noah - We have all discussed the Noah movie to a point that I think we all get it.  It was blatant blasphemy of God and His word.  Enough said on that point.
  • Son of God - was a solid movie with some "artistic" liberties, but overall a good film to see and safe for your family.
  • God's Not Dead - is probably one of the best theological Faith Based movies of our time.  If you have not seen it, treat yourself to a solid Christian Faith Based movie.  Better yet, take someone that is not a Christian with you to see it.
  • Mom's Night Out - Regina and I were blessed to be able to see the private screening with Bill and April, and Matt and Amie.  I hope and pray you all get a chance to see this movie. (It is not just a chick flick either)  Lot's of laughs and touching moments and a very real Gospel Message at the same time toward the end.
  • That leads us to - Heaven is for Real..... I have not seen the movie but had a friend give me the book.  If the movie is anything like the book, (and it should be), there is a very real threat to the Biblical message of Heaven and God being portrayed.  It is very subtle which makes it much more dangerous than probably the Noah movie.

I have included 2 links below that come from solid sources also.  John MacArthur, Grace to You, ministry and a YouTube of David Platt on this topic.  I think you will be shocked at what you see in the blog from GTY and the YouTube.  Finally I have a 3rd link from a blog that did a very good job, (much better than I could do) to divide what was in the book (possibly the movie also) against the Word of God.  Please take the time to read this blog if for nothing else to sharpen your skills on recognizing "false spirituality, new age-ish influence and subtle occult influences"

In all things pray for discernment and wisdom.  Satan is working so hard to confuse us.  Subtlety and portraying things a good when in fact it is evil is a major weapon.
